After Care

It gives me great pleasure and an immense feeling of pride to be able to offer my crafting of bespoke rustic individual designs that the natural world has allowed. Each design is crafted into a unique vision, capturing the astonishing, infectious characteristics of the natural raw material used.

However all natural products can develop exquisite flaws over time. Splits, cracks and warping can emerge over time with poor board care.  With this in mind, board care and maintenance is an important and necessary if you want your bespoke piece to look beautiful and last longer. Please take the time out to regularly follow the recommendations below:

Please Do..

• Wash using warm soapy water and wipe with a damp cloth.
• Regularly treat with a food safe mineral oil and massage in a top layer of board conditioner/beeswax.
• Dry the board flat on its feet (if fitted). Failing this stand on its side until dry and then place flat.

Please Do Not..

• Soak or submerse/leave standing in water.
• Clean with bleach or any abrasive chemicals.
• Subject it to extreme temperatures or boiling fluids.
• Clean in a dishwasher.
• Use in a microwave.
• Treat with alcohol or condition using vegetable based oils.
• Dry the board face down.
• Mistreat the product.

For regular care I recommend using a food safe mineral oil followed by a board conditioner or beeswax.

1. Mineral Oils - Before applying any treatment please make sure the board is completely dry. If not, any moisture can become trapped under the fresh oil protective layer. The mineral oil I use is tasteless, odourless, transparent and food safe. The pure mineral oil allows the oils to penetrate into the wood, providing protection, retaining the wood’s natural colour and character, and prolonging the life of your chopping board. 

Using it regularly it will help prevent cracking and splitting by reducing the impact of regular washing and drying. 

2. Board Conditioner/Beeswax - Finally apply the conditioner/beeswax. Used regularly and generously, it will prevent the board from drying out and will help prevent splitting and cracking. It will give your board a nice radiant sheen and can increase its resistance to water penetration. The product I use is tasteless, odourless, transparent and food safe.
